Perception

After several weeks of looking for a suitable home for my daughter and I, we found one that was in need of tender loving care. The front yard had a beautiful mesquite tree in the left front yard, a long gravel driveway also, a very large back yard which suited me very much. Additionally, there was a very large prickly pear cactus oblong about 4 ft wide and eight feet long. As time went on the cactus became a punching bag for Rachel’s Doberman. I digress, back to the 2 bedroom house itself. Unfortunately the home had not been cared for with any respect for some time. It screamed ‘paint me please.’

We wanted the ‘house’ to become our ‘home.’

So, off I headed for supplies. Soon I was armed with paint, rollers, brushes, brooms and other cleaning supplies. Navajo white is a most popular color for Tucson, and I purchased an adequate amount to do a good job. Thankfully, a friend came over to help and soon we were making great progress. My daughter was going to each room and sweeping down the cobwebs, Barbara and I were working on the living room. By now Rachel had progressed to her room. In looking up at the freshly painted wall, I remarked, that the paint had a rather ‘bluish’ cast on the wall. I entertained the thought that it just might be the lighting in the room. Barbara would look at the paint and suggest it had a pink cast in her opinion. This occurred several times. Suddenly, Rachel appeared in the doorway and with the directness of spirit she has, said: “Mom, you guys are crazy. It is so simple.” Well, she had both of our attention now. She continued: “Mom your glasses are tinted blue and Barbara your glasses have a pink cast.“
