A Smile

by | Jul 26, 2021 | Poem

Let others cheer the winning man
There’s one I hold worthwhile
‘Tis he who does the best he can
Then loses with a smile
Beaten he is, but not to stay
Down with the rank and file
That man will win some other day
Who loses with a smile
The human touch
‘Tis the human touch in this world
That counts
The touch of your hand and mine
Which means far more to the fainting heart
Than shelter and bread and wine
For shelter is gone with the night is over
And bread lasts only a day
But the touch of a hand and the
Sound of the voice
Sing on in the soul always
